Make a Hole with the Gun Perpendicular

My wife and I are in Sedona for a four-day getaway. Technically, this is a delayed trip in honor of our tenth wedding anniversary, which was last spring, when we couldn't really get away. My mom flew to town to watch my daughter so we could take this trip. Didn't have to twist her arm much.

Stayed in a little cottage near a creek last night. Very nice. Had a fire in the fireplace. Woke to find it had rained. Down in the little creek basin, it is very cool and lush with trees (which are changing color). It was pretty gorgeous this morning. Tonight and tomorrow night we're staying somewhere else.

Did a "vortex" tour yesterday, which was fun. Went to one spot near the Enchantment resort with a great 360 degree panoramic vista, and then went to Red Rock Crossing park, which is beautiful, verdant, overlooked by Cathedral Rock. I dropped my wife off at the spa this morning and went back to Red Rock Crossing to wander around and take pictures until I got drizzled on enough to make me worry about the camera.

Just had half a turkey sandwich from a little deli on 89A for lunch. Dinner at L'Auberge tonight. Ate at Amara last night, and it was pretty good. Slightly "W" style decor. The food wasn't quite as good as it tried to be, but we had no real complaints.

So far, anyway, this has been a really nice getaway.

(Heading explanation: Opening lyrics to "Ana Ng" by They Might Be Giants, a song that my wife and I have liked since the earliest days I've known her, sixteen years ago. It's a love song, sort of. It popped up on my iPod as I rolled away from dropping her off at the spa. Seemed appropriate for a "reconnection" anniversary excursion. Too bad she wasn't in the car to hear it. Oh well. She's not the kind of girl who needs to be.)
